Last month’s proposal for new medium density residential standards (MDRS) was arguably the most significant announcement for the housing market and the residential construction industry in living memory. From mid-2022, local councils in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Greater Wellington, and Christchurch will be forced to allow medium-density housing in virtually all residential areas.
