The key numbers...
- There were 19,895 new and used first-time registrations of cars in October, up 10% from October last year.
- New car registrations grew 12%pa, while used car registrations increased by 8.9%pa.
- There were 1,274 rental car registrations in October 2021. Although this figure was roughly quadruple the number of rental car registrations in October 2020, it is still well below the 4,201 registered in October 2019.
- There were 728 pure electric vehicle registrations in October, down from the record month of 1,637 in September.

- October was another strong month for car registrations, with private vehicle demand still showing lots of vigour, considering the ongoing restrictions.
- Used cars saw a slight boost in October, following several months dragging the chain due to ongoing supply issues.
- October is usually the strongest month for rental car registrations, as transport operators in tourism gear up for summer. However, tight border controls and ongoing lockdowns are severely limiting rental vehicle demand.
